I know that migration – both illegal and legal – concerns many locally, particularly the use of hotels as temporary accommodation for illegal economic migrants and asylum seekers.
Much to my frustration, shared by many across Tamworth and the villages, the Supreme Court have ruled against the Rwanda scheme to offshore illegal migrants and act as a deterrent to the channel crossings.
The Prime Minister has said he will introduce “emergency legislation”, enabling Parliament to confirm Rwanda is safe with the aim of stopping a stream of legal challenges, as well as pledging to stop any foreign court from blocking the flights from taking off. In stark contrast, the Labour Party have voted against legislation to stop the boats over 70 times.
Labour has no plan to stop the boats. Sir Keir Starmer and Yvette Cooper travelled around Europe with a plan to join the EU’s quota sharing scheme, which would see us surrender our borders to Brussels and move them to the Mediterranean, seeing us accept over 100,000 more illegal migrants.
