What is Ash Wednesday?
The day that follows pancake day is called Ash Wednesday.
In the Christian tradition, Ash Wednesday marks the start of the holy season of Lent, a time for reflection and repentance in preparation for the celebration of Easter in about six weeks time.
Today I went to mass at St John the Baptist RC Parish in Tamworth which included having a cross marked on my forehead in ash, as a sign of mortality.
