We need to put an end to hotels housing illegal migrants, so I was pleased to hear that more than 50 hotels accommodating asylum seekers will be exited in the coming months as small boat crossings numbers fall. These hotels will be gradually handed back to hoteliers by the end of January 2024.
Asylum seekers currently accommodated in these hotels will be moving to other parts of the UK’s asylum estate. This move has been achieved due to the government’s wider efforts to tackle illegal migration, including ongoing work with international partners such as Turkey and Italy, to tackle organised immigration crime.
I will continue to lobby ministers until we see the Holiday Inn in Tamworth returned to use by tourists and business travellers, and for family celebrations.
